Insurance - Business Analysis and Architecture
A large insurance company based in California, and operating in 41 states across the country has multiple business lines - offer different types of life insurance products, provide property & casualty insurance, act as attorneys-in-fact for reciprocals or inter-insurance exchanges.

The insurance company was using a 3rd party product to manage their touch-points with various law firms, clients, and branch legal offices (BLOs). As their needs began to evolve and as they discovered opportunities for new business models it was clear that a custom platform will give them the best leverage.

A research and discovery process led to a new platform for Claim Litigation Management that improves operational efficiencies for all the participants in the litigation business process. The efficiencies are realized in the form of improved payment times and compliance to inter-party contracts. The new platform is also operated as an ASP service. It is a content/document management system with business process integration and rule-driven decision-making. Ecognize provided the following services:

  • Definition Product/Service Strategy
  • Collect and analyze Business Requirements from several departments
  • Establish Product roadmap based on features and delivery schedule
  • Project Management activities including developing schedules, effort estimates, and team management
  • Knowledge transfer and advisory services to a dedicated offshore development team to deliver the final solution

Publishing - Architecture and Advisory Services
A large publishing company with presence in education, business information, and consumer publishing needed to optimize their content and digital asset management capabilities. The company has offices in over 60 countries and content is required to be pervasive and seamlessly accessible across the various office locations.
The company wanted to reassess their portfolio of content and digital asset management (DAM) systems to ensure reuse and integration. Ecognize took responsibility for defining the technology strategy and architecture for a new integrated DAM platform. Ecognize's Lead Architect managed a team of 5 junior architects to define a high-performance distributed architecture that is reliable, scalable, and flexible. Ecognize's responsibilities included technology research, consensus building on ideas, project planning, budgeting, project management, task allocation, and cost management. The architecture provided a savings of $5 Million over 2 years. Key aspects of the system included process-driven and cross-enterprise integration using Web Services. The team continued to provide advisory services and oversight for the project implementation.

Healthcare - Strategy and Planning
The customer’s flagship product for Human Resources is currently offered as an ASP model with different sourcing strategies in different markets. The current solution was based on legacy technology (IBM mainframe, ISAM, millions of LOC in Cobol and Assembly language) that posed major roadblocks for the customer in terms of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), long maintenance cycle, lack of web presence, rapid response to customer needs, customer retention, and market growth. However it caters to several hundreds of existing customers and processes six million checks and close to 20 million invoices a year.

Ecognize teamed with an off-shore consulting partner to provide technology strategy. An analysis of the current state, pain points, lost opportunities, and new business objectives was performed. Ecognize's collateral that comprises of knowledge of the technology marketplace, best practices, and in-depth technical frameworks were leveraged to define a target state. Using proven maturity models a strategic roadmap was developed to include phased execution approach, detailed project plans, cost estimates, risk management models, and ongoing governance framework.
